About me
Facing difficult emotional and interpersonal challenges in our lives can be frightening but can also be a time for growth and healing. Talking with someone who listens without judgment, understands your concerns, and helps clarify issues can be invaluable. I am a culturally competent therapist with experience working with various populations including children, adolescents, adults, couples, military families, and K-12 students.
I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Northern Arizona University in 1994 and received my Master's in Counseling from the University of Phoenix in 1998. I have over ten years of experience as a clinician working in a variety of community mental health settings and academia. I taught elementary school for 12 years and maintain my teaching certificate in early childhood education (Birth – Age 8/Grade 3). Currently, I work as a K-12 School Counselor in a public school.
My therapeutic approach is solution-focused and strength-based. I utilize evidence-based therapy techniques, such as mindfulness-based interventions and CBT, to address symptoms of PTSD, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, relational problems, and/or other life stressors. My role as a therapist is to support you and to challenge you on your path to self-improvement and self-empowerment. Through a collaborative process, we can explore and address the underlying causes of problematic behaviors, beliefs, and feelings. Together, we can begin the process of healing.

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Deborah Valerio. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Regain might be different.
My husband and I loved working with Deborah! She really understood us and our situation. I loved how she was able to pay attention to both my husband and I during our sessions. She asked really great questions that helped us think and collaborate as a couple and gave us really great ideas on how we can move forward each time we left our meeting. Highly recommend her for couples.
Deborah Valerio is a deeply intuitive listener and interpreter in difficult relationship dynamics. Her questions are thought-provoking and meaningful and often get right to the sticking points. She's also fun, light, and very easy to open up to. I'm grateful to have found her, as after only three sessions, my communication with my partner is already shifting and I feel really close to a breakthrough, one way or another. I would recommend Deborah to any struggling couple I know. Thank you, Deborah!
I trust the guidance
We are only a few sessions in but so far I am happy with Deborah
Deborah is super understanding and makes both sides feel listened to!
I love how understanding she is and makes sure me and my partner are progressing in good terms
Deborah has helped us better communicate in our relationship.
She listens and responds to the concerns of the day, it is nice because she is able to relate and offer tools that are helpful in a seamlessly integrative way into the conversation. It is a sweet breath of fresh air to have her as a sounding board to bounce ideas and issues off of.
Deborah is a good listener and thoughtful in her approach.
Deborah is great! Highly recommend her!
Deborah is a great therapist. She recognized a lot of our issues from our first session and has helped us as a couple and individuals. She is one of the few counselors who I had been able to connect with and translate what I say into something my partner understands
Deborah is great at guessing what we can’t seem to say and it’s appreciated. We like her a lot thanks to her understanding and relatability.
She’s great! Connected with her well!
Deborah has been extremely helpful in helping us have productive, caring conversations we haven’t been able to have on our own. She understands the anxiety and ADHD challenges my husband has and still makes me feel like my feelings are valid as well. She’s been great at helping us learn how to communicate with each other and pinpoint areas in our marriage that need more attention and progress to a new level as well.
