About me
As a therapist I have used numerous different relationship models for therapy. Each one is beneficial. They cover similar topics and have a unique emphasis. Relationships are complex and resolving conflict is often very difficult. It can be beneficial to understand ourselves, the other person and what we can do to improve our relationship. We each have a unique perspective and very different families of origin. From the day we are born to the day we meet our partner we learn unique things from each relationship we observe, including parents, grandparents, extended family and friends. The observations we make help to facilitate the development of our relationship expectations. Our partner had very different experiences.
We only know what our partner is thinking when we take the time to actually listen and understand their perspective. My partner can only begin to understand me if I share my perspective. We must feel emotionally safe in the relationship before we are willing to talk about personal issues and resolve difficulties. How can we create an emotionally safe relationship? I would like to work with you and your partner to determine what you can both do to create the relationship you want to have. It takes a lot of courage and strength to ask for assistance with our personal issues and relationships. If you are willing and ready to take the first step forward in your search for a more meaningful and fulfilling life, I am willing to provide the assistance, support and encouragement you might need while you are on this personal journey.
As a clinical social worker, I am independently licensed in Ohio and have more than 16 years of experience working as a therapist. I have worked with clients from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds who had various different concerns including depression, anxiety, anger issues, traumatic experiences, moral injury, grief and loss, relationship and parenting issues to name a few. My counseling style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating everyone with respect and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and treatment to meet your unique and specific concerns.
My social work experience includes a blend of both medical and mental health positions. I worked as a medical social worker in rehabilitation, hospice and palliative care. Then I worked on a sub-acute inpatient mental health floor with seriously mentally ill clients. After that I was a co-facilitator in a PTSD and Co-Occurring Disorders residential treatment program. For two years I was on the PTSD Clinical Team at a VAMC Community Based Outpatient Clinic where I only worked with trauma survivors. I am certified in Prolonged Exposure, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy and Grief Recovery.
I am a mature Social Worker who returned to college after several years of life experience. I was born and raised in western Canada and lived in South Africa for two years while I worked as a Graphic Artist. After returning home I met my husband, got married, moved to the USA, had children, got my American citizenship and completed my education. My life experience has been a beneficial asset while working as a Clinical Social Worker, identifying and meeting the needs of clients and their families.
I look forward to getting to know you and working with you!

Very understanding and helpful
Emmaly was an absolute pleasure to work with. She equipped us with tools that immediately made a positive difference in our lives. We would recommend Emmaly to couples looking for immediate results!
Emmaly is a wonderful listener, which is probably at the heart of most of this work. She clearly understands people and how we work, and asks key questions that get us to do the work and come to our own understanding. She won't just give up answers, we've tried! I appreciate her kind, calm, and direct manner and feel she believes in us, in our ability to resolve our issues and get to a healthier place. So far, it's working...
