About me
Hello. My name is Ruth Carter and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with 13 years experience in this field. Before becoming a counselor, I was a teacher who found many of her students in need of emotional guidance as well as intellectual development. I began to think that if I was going to help my students, I needed to know more. I left teaching to seek a degree in Counseling.
Talking with a therapist is not easy for most people, and I applaud your decision to reach out. I have been trained in different therapeutic approaches, but my primary job is to listen. I must also provide you with a safe environment for your explorations. I will always treat you with respect and compassion. And sometimes I will challenge your thinking.
I might visit with each of you individually on occasion, but for the most part, we will all meet together. It is important that I understand the issues that brought you here. I know that it can be difficult to talk about these issues and difficult to listen to each other talk about these. But it is where we will begin. I may ask you to work on your patience and empathy as we go deeper into your situation. You might think now that you know what's wrong between the two of you and how to fix it. I am going to ask that you listen, along with me, and keep an open mind as much as possible. And I will remind you to do this from time to time.
We will look carefully at your situation and explore options. We may try new things or re-try some old ones. You are each you own person and you are a couple. You are looking at therapy because something or things are making the couple part of you difficult. We will talk about what that is and what you can do to about it, Change is not easy, but it is possible.
Whether or not you come to see me, I am pleased that you are seeking assistance. I wish the very best for you.

Just a wonderful experience with Ruth.
Ruth has been amazing. I honestly have no words to describe how much I appreciate her help and expertise. I instantly felt comfortable and safe talking to her. One of the best therapists I have experienced.
