About me
I graduated Pace University with my Master's Degree as Licensed Mental health Therapist and Substance Abuse Counselor. I do not believe in a One Size Fits All approach to therapy as each individual has specific treatment needs as each person's experiences and emotional impact from those experiences are unique to that individual. This is why my theoretical approach is Humanistic and Client Centered. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Adler and Gestalt . I have experience working with individuals struggling with negative self-talk, low self-esteem, mood instability, substance use, challenging irrational beliefs, anxiety, history of trauma, and identity development.
I believe in the importance of collaboration so forging a Therapeutic Alliance is important, it allows for trust and deeper therapeutic work to occur which will allow the individual to reach their goals effectively. This allows the individual to see. feel and understand that as a therapist my values and morals are not important, the ONLY thing that is of importance is what is impacting You as an Individual from fulfilling the goals, changes that is important to you. I will help and teach you how to celebrate the milestones as well as the slip ups. We all can learn from a slip up after all it is not how you fall, but how you get back up!! My Goal as a therapist is to help you reach a point of strength, empowerment, self-love, self-forgiveness, love whom you are , develop coping skills, acceptance in a safe and nurturing environment, and never need Me again!
As a parent, I utilize the skills/tools that I suggest to the families/parents/teens that I service. As a Parent it was hard for me to adjust my parenting approach between genders, new generation culture and understanding that children are people with their own thoughts, wants, needs and desires and innate abilities. I knew/know this as a therapist but as a Parent it can be a struggle. I realized that communication and power struggle and the child wanting to find their own identity can create World War 3! With open minds and a safe and nurturing environment that is judgement free, collaboratively we will identity family problems/struggles and learn open effective communication to enhance family relationships.

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Tantenisha James. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Regain might be different.
She was so great I had to come back !
She’s the best so far.
She is a great listener and communicator. She gives both sides a chance to share their side and takes the time to address all concerns.
I feel very comfortable speaking with “T” . She listens and is able to help us to start to understand the core, not the surface issue.
T is honestly the dopest, most innovative and relatable therapist i ever had. Super professional, at times unorthodox but very effective. On top of that she’s friendly and personable. Would highly recommend.❤️
We’ve only had a couple of sessions so far but Tantenisha is exactly who we needed. She is straight forward without sugar coating things which we both appreciate. She uses humor so that things do not get so tense. This makes it so my partner can feel more comfortable with counseling. She gives so much helpful insight and I love that she gives us homework and activities to do together prior to our next session. It’s easy to talk to her and be vulnerable because she is so relatable and open herself.
Excellent
Tantenisha has been incredibly supportive and kind. Her knowledge and guidance has really helped me feel better and I'm grateful to have received her help. Sometimes it felt like I wasn't being properly understood, but that was probably down to an inability to properly explain things on my part. All in all, Tantenisha knew, and provided the means to help me help myself.
Amazing, awesome...picks up on the little things and finds the issues. She is relatable and seems to know just where we are at
