About me
I have worked as a mental health counselor for over 30 years. My locations of employment are Florida and Pennsylvania. I have worked in Residential Mental Health and Residential Substance Abuse. I was a school teacher for 16 years teaching students with learning differences, emotional issues, autism and developmentally delayed. While working as a a teacher I had a private practice in the evenings. I have knowledge in the area of Religious trauma syndrome and faith transitioning.
Someone told me one time, "Relationships are hard work". We all want to be respected and loved. It is important that we get to know the person in our relationships and work together to make it fulfilling. Listening to hear and understanding, not to answer, is very important in any relationship. It is a behavior that many of us struggle with. Learning to respect each other and know what is important to each other is very important to secure a relationship.

I had the pleasure of working with Valerie Johnson-Cardoso for relationship counseling, and it has been an incredibly transformative experience. Valerie creates a warm and welcoming environment that immediately puts you at ease. Her communication style is both compassionate and direct, which helped me and my partner address our challenges head-on.
Valerie has a unique ability to listen deeply, understand the dynamics at play, and offer insights that are both practical and insightful. She doesn’t just focus on individual issues but also emphasizes how both partners contribute to the relationship. This approach helped us not only understand each other better but also taught us effective communication tools to navigate conflicts.
Her guidance has been invaluable in strengthening our connection, improving how we handle disagreements, and learning to appreciate each other’s perspectives. Valerie’s professionalism, patience, and expertise have made a significant difference in our relationship. We left each session feeling more connected and with a clearer path forward.
I highly recommend Valerie Johnson-Cardoso to anyone seeking support in their relationship. Her expertise and genuine care make her an outstanding therapist, and we’re incredibly grateful for her help.
Valerie is a wonderful therapist. Her anecdotes are hilarious but full of lessons . 10/10
Valerie has been nothing but thoughtful, kind and helpful through this process. As a couple, we have felt heard, understood and appreciated through our sessions and with the messages in between.
We just had two sessions. She seems to know her stuff. She is easy to talk with and is straight forward. I am hoping for some good results after a few sessions.
Valerie is very empathetic and full of positivitive energy. Not only does she gives very insightful advice, she is also very encouraging, accepting and loving. We feel more motivated to work on ourselves and our relationship everytime we talk to her!
